Q&A with Aubry Lybbert
Aubry is the blogger behind Finding Beautiful Truth. She has a great lifestyle blog that is clean, attractive, and filled with beautiful pictures. Her audience really gets to know her and brands and businesses love her. She also is the lifestyle contributor on The Charming.
How do you determine the type of lifestyle content relevant to feature on Finding Beautiful Truth?
First and foremost, I think it's important to feature content you are passionate about. This makes the creation process a lot more enjoyable. If you don't enjoy what you're writing about, taking pictures of or sharing on your blog, you can't expect your content to be the absolute best it can be. Your passion for the subject--be it cooking or taking nature hikes--will always come across in your content.
What does your planning process look like?
At the beginning of each month, I sit down and loosely plan out my blog content on an oversized desk calendar (like this one). Be sure to use a pencil--it's important to recognize that your plans can and probably will change. I also use Hootsuite to schedule the month's 'from the archives' tweets. This is a great way to share past content that still feels relevant. Plus, it ensures that every day I have at least 2-3 new posts to one of my most followed social media platforms.
I also set aside a specific amount of time each day to brainstorm new post ideas, edit photos for posts or write content. The structured schedule ensures that I stay on task and don't get sidetracked doing things that aren't a priority.
Do you have any advice for reaching out to brands?
Before reaching out to brands, make sure that your site, social media platforms and media kit are up to par. These pieces come together to act as your resume. Think of it like a job interview--you definitely want to look the part and have your credentials featured on center stage.
When you feel confident with your content and statistics, reach out to brands that are a clear fit for your site. Think of this part like dating. If you don't have anything in common, the collaboration will feel strained and out of place.
What blogs and websites do you enjoy reading for your own pleasure or even to better your blogger knowledge?
I recently subscribed to The Nectar Collective's newsletter. It's a great source for blog and small business tips. I especially enjoy reading through their Self Improvement posts. They are just the motivation I need to keep chugging along.
What social media channels do you find work best with your brand in connecting with your audience?
It's easy to think that you have to do a little bit of everything in order to be successful. When it comes to social media, I've found that this isn't quite the case.
From my experience, I've found that it's best to focus your efforts on just a few different channels. This allows you to consistently create great content and really connect with your followers--you don't want to spread yourself too thin. It's also important to note that your content should be cohesive from one platform to the next. While your photos and wording may differ, your brand identity and voice should always be clear.
How would you describe your perfect Saturday?
My perfect Saturday starts with a fresh and healthy breakfast. Then, I'd head off the local farmer's market to pick up produce, beautiful baked goods and a bouquet of flowers. I should also mention that it'd be light jacket weather, a crisp 50 degrees. Next would come a late lunch date with Jake (my husband) and an afternoon walk through a big grassy park. To top it all off, I'd end the day with a seasonal dessert like homemade peach cobbler.
What would be your dream city to live in?
If the stars aligned and I could live anywhere in the world, I'd choose London as my home. The city holds a special place in my heart because it's where Jake and I met. Plus, it's home to Borough Market. Need I say more?
